Ben’s Senior Session In The Big D Was Totally Bomb!

Ben’s senior session in the big D was totally bomb indeed.  We are photographing seniors in Detroit more and more these days and Ben is a buddy of both of our kids – it’s kinda cool this year for us with some of our seniors because this is the class in between our 2 and Ben we’ve known for a while so it was a ton of fun.  Ben’s mom Erin is great too – she came along and we laughed a lot on this session!

Senior Session In The Big D…

We started on Belle Isle which is pretty typical for us when we head down to Detroit and we’ll pick up the action there with the fountain in the background:

Totally Bomb

At this point we headed over to The Belt alley to get a few more shots and we have some behind the scenes fun from the replay of our Facebook Live broadcast:

…and here is one of the resulting photos:

Totally Bomb

We then made another stop over by the Eastern Market to one of our favorite empty buildings for a little urban decay vibe (even though Detroit is very much “un-decaying” and coming back strong these days).

Totally Bomb

Ben – totally Bomb!

We headed back to the studio at this point for a fiery finish to the session – totally bomb!  Here’s the fun behind the scenes action from the YouTube Live replay:

And the killer result!

Totally Bomb

Bad dude right there….

And there you have it – Ben’s session was totally bomb indeed and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with him!

Highlights From A Total Knockout Senior Session With Noah!

Noah is a bad dude – for multiple reasons.  1) He has a great relationship with his mom Michelle who came with us on his senior session.  We think that’s bad ass.  2) He’s a North Farmington Raider – always a sure sign.  3)  He’s a mixed martial artist!  Anyone who doesn’t mind getting punched in the face and is willing to battle in the ring has to be tough, and that’s ultimately what made his session a total knockout!  You’ll see what we mean in a bit…

A Total Knockout Session

Noah’s session was in the morning so we started on location so we could get the sun low in the sky and that’s where we’ll start with this cool shot in a nice natural setting:

Total Knockout

Kinda nice that you can even see a few highlights of fall colors starting to show…

We also have some fun behind the scenes action for you first from the replay of our Facebook Live broadcast:

And here’s one more shot from outside:

Total Knockout

Good lookin’ dude!

At this point we headed back to the studio for the rough stuff….hehe

Total Knockout

Whoa – I would NOT mess with this guy…

Here’s some more behind the scenes from the studio this time from the replay of the YouTube Live broadcast!

And one more classic full length shot again in black and white:

Total Knockout

So cool.  Yep – the session was a total knockout indeed and now you can see why!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with Noah!

In The Eden Of Orchard Lake For Senior Pictures….With Eden!

One of the definitions of an Eden is a place of pristine or abundant natural beauty, and Orchard Lake fits that description with beautiful Apple Island in the center.  It’s right up the road from the studio and a great backdrop for senior pictures!  So when an actual Eden came our way it seemed to make perfect sense to shoot there – by an “actual Eden” we mean our latest senior to highlight here on the blog – Eden!  Eden’s mom Lisa joined us and we had a great day starting in the studio so let’s begin there:

Eden

Love that – just simple on the white background!

We also have some fun behind the scenes as we usually do – first from the replay of our Facebook Live broadcast:

At this point we headed over to Orchard Lake and we also have some Pure Michigan fall color going on!

In the Eden Of Orchard Lake…

Eden

Beautiful – love Eden’s smile here and that’s Apple Island in the background with the pretty fall colors!  We also like the way the branch in the foreground frames her nicely…

Here’s another with more fall color:

Eden

So pretty!

Let’s take a look at some more behind the scenes action this time from the replay of our YouTube Live broadcast:

And one more from our day…

Eden

Love it – great one to finish with at our Eden with our Eden!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

Is Organic Reach Dead On Facebook? Is This A Legit Question?

Organic Reach

Is organic reach dead on Facebook?  Do you have to spend advertising dollars to reach anyone on Facebook now?  I hear people say this more and more….  As I’ve written here before I participate weekly in a live Twitter chat and broadcast on Periscope called #LetsLivestream.  It’s always a good discussion with many great guests and nice production value hosted by Jonathan Tripp, and once in a while a topic or a take in the conversation gets me thinking about a blog post.  This week the topic was promotion of your live streams – best practices for promoting, various tools etc.  Question 4 is the one that got me going:

Organic Reach

Here was my answer:

Organic Reach

A bit of a contrarian view perhaps (Wait – MOI?  A contrarian view?), and even though I referenced Periscope in my tweet (keep in mind the livestream takes place ON Periscope), I continued on to include Facebook Live in my point in the chat.  At that point my esteemed friend Jenn Nelson of @JennsLIVE & @WineAntics who helps produce the show chimed in with the comment “ORGANIC REACH IS DEAD ON FACEBOOK!!!”  And then this happened:

Organic ReachOrganic ReachOrganic ReachOrganic Reach

This was going nowhere.  We agreed to continue the discussion offline after the show which we did.

So Is Organic Reach Indeed Dead On Facebook?

I sent her these screen shots of recent analytics for our Facebook page with the organic reach numbers – these represent all the posts we made on the Frameable Faces page from 10/3/17 to 11/14/17:

Organic Reach

Note that as of this writing we have a TOTAL of 1792 followers of our page.  You too can be a follower!  Give us a “Like”!!!  Okay sorry that was very shameless and spammy.  I digress.  But the point is you’ll note in the numbers above that virtually ALL of our reach has been non-paid.  There is one sliver of darker orange that represents a bit of boosted / paid reach when we spent a couple dollars to get one post going a little.  In this snapshot of time the reach on our posts range anywhere from 188 at the lowest to 2.6k at the highest and roughly half of these were Livestreams.  The livestreams didn’t have the peaks and valleys that the other posts did, generally ranging between a more consistent 500-1000.  Meanwhile, YES – we still get plenty of organic reach and a handful of posts still go beyond the followers of our page without paying on Facebook!

Is This Even A Legit Question?

Now here is where the debate gets interesting.  Jenn’s point which is shared by many is that Facebook doesn’t just automatically dole out free reach for your business page anymore.  And she’s right to a point.  Little by little Facebook has pulled back on how much they’ll push your content out to your followers, and many feel like it’s become closer and closer to a full on pay-to-play model to get any reach.  Each time the announcement / rumor comes out that they’ve tweaked the algorithm again my response is the very same every time:  Crappy content continues to get less organic reach on #Facebook. Good content still gets plenty. frameablefaces.com/2017-11-16-organic-reach-dead-facebook/ Share on X

So my question is what IS organic reach?  See the following conversation between Jenn and me:

Organic ReachOrganic Reach

How great is Jenn?  Give her a like / follow!  But here’s the question (to her point), a typical post of hers might only reach 40 people on Facebook on its own.  That’s what Facebook is just handing her out of the gate.  I would still argue that that is still not purely an automatic just because she posted – those 40 people on some level have to be 1) followers that have 2) likely shown some affinity towards her page through their Facebook behavior.  Now once someone shares it it may bump right up to 200 and so on.  Isn’t that STILL “organic”?  In other words, good content that compels people to share will still gain reach organically.  If that’s not still considered organic then what’s the point of even talking about “organic reach”?  As I said to Jenn what’s the point of even creating content in the first place if no one is going to share it?  If a post falls in the Facebook Forest and no one sees it did it really happen?  Shares, likes, comments – engagement – is part of the deal with organic.  That’s the reason we do this in the first place.

Which brings us back to the same old tried and true principle of Facebook and ALL social media in general.  Make sure you are entertaining, teaching, engaging – providing value with good content and you will still get that organic reach!!!!  I created this meme a while back as kind of my favorite quote for small businesses – kind of my little calling card….  follow this and yes – there is still organic reach to be had everywhere on social media.  Even on Facebook.

Organic Reach

Kristen Is Our First Falcon And She Represented In Style!

It’s pretty hard to believe that after basically 9 years of photographing seniors that we never photographed a Farmington Falcon!  So finally……enter Kristen!  Kristen came to us as a cousin of some former seniors of ours and we were pretty excited to keep the chain going and get some Falcon love on our blog!  Kristen was a perfect first Falcon too, so let’s get to it!

First Falcon…

Kristen had a little entourage for her session here at the studio and her lovely mom Jordon met us downtown for the location shoot at Eastern Market as well – much fun!  After a quick few shots in the studio we stopped at a park in Farmington before we headed downtown and that’s where we’ll pick up the action:

First Falcon

Nice!!!

We also have some behind the scenes fun as usual from there in a Facebook Live replay:

At this point we headed downtown and we were actually a little nervous because it rained on the way down – it was NOT supposed to!  But we lucked out – the weather held once we got down there and we were able to get some great shots.  Not to mention an overcast sky can really work to your advantage anyway because the light is nice and diffused.

First Falcon

Love that…

Here’s another:

First FalconThe color is so vibrant and with the flowers on Kristen’s shirt it ties in nicely!

Time for a little more behind the scenes fun this time from our YouTube Live broadcast replay!

And we’ll leave you with one more photo…

First Falcon

And there you have it!  Our First Falcon was a winner and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

An Honor To Have Chase Here For His Senior Pictures!

Yes it was fun to have Chase here for his senior pictures, but it was also an honor since Chase will be joining the Army after high school!  What a great kid and we know he’ll have a great career in the armed forces.  But for now let’s enjoy the fun pics where everyone got involved from the fam to Diva the pup, and this session was broken up into two days because of weather…  that seems to be a bit of a theme this Fall!

An Honor To Have Chase…

So we started in the studio on our scheduled day even with the bad weather outside and mom Krysten and nana Denise both joined us!  Great ladies!  Here is Chase on the white backdrop for the clean basic contemporary look – always a winner.

Honor

We also have some behind the scenes with the replay of our Facebook Live broadcast where Chase donned a little Army gear (a t-shirt, ballcap, and camo shorts)!

And the result:

Honor

Very cool!  We support our military!

Day 2

The day we had scheduled for the location session was a perfect day and everyone got into the act here…  so fun!  Let’s start with Chase and Diva the German Shepherd!

Honor

Diva even smiled for the picture!  Awesome.

We have more behind the scenes here too this time from the replay of the YouTube Live broadcast:

We’ll leave you with the family shot complete with the little bros!

Honor

And there you have it – an honor to be with these folks and Chase especially.  A fine young man to be sure!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our time with all of them!

Ah Yeah Aliya! Your Senior Picture Session Rocked!

Ah yeah Aliya’s session rocked!  And why not?  Her sister Nadia’s session rocked and her whole family – well, they generally rock all the way around.  In other words, we like them.  With Aliya we actually were forced to break up her session into separate days due to weather which was fine with us – more time with her and her delightful mom Nisha!

Ah Yeah Aliya!

Meanwhile Aliya brought some traditional dress to the proceedings which always makes us happy – so beautiful to photograph with the vibrant colors and patterns!

We started in the studio on a crummy day outdoors as we mentioned before, but it’s always perfect in the studio so let’s take a look!

Ah Yeah Aliya

Love that!

We have some behind the scenes fun for you as well – first with the replay of the Facebook Live broadcast we did:

And one more from the studio before we get to our location day….

Ah Yeah Aliya

Love the earth tones, the wooden floor, the backdrop – all of it!

Now let’s head outside!  For our rescheduled day for the location part the weather cooperated much better and we headed over to the West Bloomfield trail network and nature preserve.

Ah Yeah Aliya

Beautiful!  The lighting, the traditional clothing – Alia looks amazing!

We also have more behind the scenes – this time from the YouTube Live broadcast:

And we’ll leave you with one more from our day!

Ah Yeah Aliya

Great one to finish on!

And there you have it!  Ah yeah Aliya definitely rocked her senior session and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day(s) with her!

A Fabulous Family Of Three – And They Are Soon To Be Four!

It’s a joy to see a family in the process of growing right before your eyes when they are expecting and this fabulous family of three is about to become FOUR!  So we met them in a park to get some awesome location portraits of this version of the crew and we had a blast.

Fabulous Family of Three

Corey and Alexis have actually been to the studio before as part of a larger group family portrait session, but this time we got to hang with just them and their cool little man Avery and the results are pretty great.  Let’s start with the family portrait of the three of them:

Fabulous Family

Love that fun look on Avery’s face!

We also have some fun behind the scenes from the morning from the replay of our Facebook Live broadcast:

So fun!

Let’s get to a few more shots – let’s take a look at Avery just being Avery!

Fabulous Family

And how about a father / son shot in black and white!

Fabulous Family

Precious.

And now just the happy couple together…

Fabulous Family

Awesome.  We enjoyed our time with this fabulous family and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our morning!

Nominating Nora For Nabbing A Perfect Senior Session!

In the category for Nabbing A Perfect Senior Session we are nominating Nora!!!  Holy moly – everything about this one is fabulous.  We’ve known Nora going back to elementary school days in the Magnet program at Roosevelt Elementary with our daughter Lacey, and she was always a sweetheart of a little girl then.  Now that’s she’s a senior she’s still the same sweetheart, just all grown up and more beautiful than ever!  We were so happy to have her here and we had so much fun with her and her mom Rajaa!  We’re pretty excited to present these sneak peeks…

Nominating Nora…

We started out in the studio and we’ll highlight one of those photos first with the white outfit on the white backdrop.  White on white or black on black both look really nice if you light them properly!Nominating Nora

Great right?

We have some behind the scenes fun for you as usual – first from the setup above in the studio on Facebook Live:

For the location part of the session with Nora we started with a return to Orchard Lake at a spot we hadn’t photographed in years to get a photo with the lake in the background and here’s the result:

Nominating Nora

Spectacular!

Here’s some more behind the scenes – this time at the lake on YouTube Live:

At this point we had another stop to make – this time over behind the West Bloomfield Library and the light was perfect!  These next two photos Nora was really in the zone.  This first one in the meadow with the slight haze and the backlight on her hair…

Nominating Nora

…breathtakingly beautiful!!!  Wow.

And this one with Nora just relaxing up close and personal….

Nominating Nora

Awesome.  You can see why we are nominating Nora for nabbing a perfect senior session!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

We Know You Will See The Allure Of Liz’s Lovely Senior Session!

The allure of Liz’s lovely senior session is strong indeed because it’s um…..awesome!  We are big fans of this girl – she has an artist’s point of view as an aspiring photographer herself and we really enjoyed photographing her!  The only problem is that we’re a Canon shop and she shoots with a Nikon – ha – but that just proves how much we like her that we still let her into the studio and even took a photo of her with her camera which you’ll see below!  Liz’s mom Marion came along for the fun, Liz looked amazing and we are excited to show you these highlights so let’s get to it…

Allure Of Liz’s Lovely Senior Session

We started out in the studio and here is a good time to give a shout out to Mandy Rose studio for the makeup – a fantastic job as usual.

Allure

Love that setup with the damask backdrop and the wooden floor!  And love Liz’s style!

We also have some fun behind the scenes here first with the replay of our YouTube Live broadcast getting the photo above!

While we were in the studio we let Liz break out her Nikon and we took this fun photo:

Allure

So fun – a girl and her camera and a girl after our own hearts!!!

At this point it was time to head out on location in Birmingham where we had a great day and where we captured this next photo – stunning really…

Allure

Wow.  Absolutely gorgeous.

Here’s another behind the scenes replay from the day this time from Facebook Live:

And here is a final shot which comes from the replay above:

Allure

Adorable!!!

And there you have it – we’re pretty confident you get the allure of Liz’s lovely session after seeing these sneak peeks!!!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!
