Rachel Was Resplendent On Her Senior Session!

Rachel was resplendent on her senior photo session on location, in the studio, with her hair curly and straight!  Her session had it all and why not?  This girl has it all.  She’s got the looks, brains, personality, a great family and a great future!  We were proud to have her represent our studio this year as a spokesmodel and we were looking forward to photographing her again since her spokesmodel session was so great!

Rachel was torn between having her hair curly which is how it is naturally or wearing it straight which is what we did for the spokesmodel session, so we decided to do a little of both.  Her mom joined us and we had a blast!  We started outside on location with the curls where the fall leaves were all around…

Resplendent

Really pretty lighting here and as I said before – Rachel looks resplendent!

Meanwhile we had another “wildlife adventure” on this shoot as a snake decided to join us making Rachel scream which pretty much made me scream… kind of a chain reaction…

Ally was able to grab a photo of our little friend…

SNAKENext we moved over to a pavilion in the nature preserve that has several elements that we like to photograph with our seniors, but while we have noticed this mural in the next photo before, we never used it!  We’re not sure why we hadn’t but we’ll call it “Rachel’s Mural” from now on and we think it made for a really nice backdrop!

Resplendent

Here is our fun little behind the scenes vine of the day!

Next it was time to head back to the studio and Rachel went down the hall to get her hair straightened for the second half of the session where we focused mainly on the black background.  The black always has a nice dramatic look to it:

Resplendent

Straight-haired Rachel looks just as good as curly-haired Rachel!  And let’s look at one more on the black…

Resplendent

So that’ll do it!  We hope you liked these highlights from Rachel’s session in all of her resplendence!  We certainly enjoyed spending another day with her!

Admiring Annabel Always!

We’ll be admiring Annabel always.  We always have and we always will!  We photographed Annabel with her dad and brother (her brother Harry is featured in this class of 2013 post with the flaming baseball bat) right when we opened our studio and we were impressed with her from the first moment we met her.  We had her pegged as someone we hoped would represent our studio someday as a senior early on, and meanwhile as we said in the post for her spokesmodel session she’s been “spokesmodeling” for us for years really… Giving us the rundown on who’s who and recommending seniors.  It’s not a total stretch to say Annabel has helped shape the direction of the studio – the girl knows everyone and she has given us great insights over the years!  We’re literally not sure what we are going to do without her when she goes away to college.

As for her senior photo session this is now the 4th time Ally has photographed Annabel since we opened and it was a bit surreal and very special.  Her dad came along and we had a lot of fun as we always do!

Admiring Annabel

We went to a familiar location but we photographed some of our favorite spots there in new ways with new angles, and then we found a couple spots that we hadn’t used before as well.  Pulling back on the crop for a full length on the dock is pretty cool and Annabel’s outfit is really cute in the shot above!  She looks fantastic!

We were able to take advantage of the pop of Michigan fall colors in this next close up – love it!

Admiring Annabel

Here is our fun behind the scenes vine of the day:

Next we headed down to one of the bridges in the park for this shot that we’re not quite sure we’ve done before and we’re not sure why – it really worked.  Not to mention that dress with those shoes…!

Admiring Annabel

Lastly we went to downtown Birmingham for some cityscapes and we went to the top of one of the parking structures which we hadn’t done in a while either and as the sun was getting low in the sky the angle of the light along with a little breeze produced this stunning shot!

Admiring Annabel

So there you have it!  We can’t wait to see what big things are in store for Annabel – we are proud to call her our friend and as I said before we will be admiring Annabel always!

Our Delightful Day With Danielle!

Our delightful day with Danielle was one we will always remember for sure.  To begin with Ally and Danielle’s mom go back to their college days where they had classes together at Michigan State, so this was a little surreal for both of them.  It was particularly cute because the whole scene was making Danielle’s mom a little emotional – it was a special time for her to see her little girl all grown up and having her senior pictures taken.

As for the girl – Danielle is such a sweetheart that we fell for her right away.  This seems to be a recurring theme lately as we’ve had some fantastic kids this year, and Danielle really impressed us as we talked about her plans for the future and we just really enjoyed our time together.  She’s just, well, delightful!

Delightful Day

It didn’t hurt that we had the combination going of such a beautiful girl with such a beautiful day!  It really was perfect.  We started out on location and headed out onto some trails where we had great lighting and great colors.

Delightful Day

She’s adorable!

Next let’s take a look at our fun behind the scenes vine of the morning where Danielle’s mom was providing the soundtrack from her iPhone when we were on location, and providing the encouragement when we were in studio!  Haha!

Okay one more photo outside and the backlight on her hair on this one really helps make the photo – love it!

Delightful Day

At this point it was time to head back to the studio to get some photos indoors, and we are highlighting this one on the red background that really worked – you could see us working with the red in the vine.  We love when our seniors pick red as one of their selections!

Delightful Day

So we hope you enjoyed these highlights from our delightful day with Danielle!  We were certainly delighted to share them with you!

Our Triple Streak Of Guys Concludes With Good Guy Jeremy!

It’s funny how our seniors can run in streaks, and our current “triple streak” of guys concludes with Jeremy.  If you notice I usually like to use words in my titles that begin with the same letter as our senior’s name, but there seem to be a shortage of synonyms for “nice” that start with “J”.  Jeremy is just a nice guy – pure and simple.  Fun, well-rounded, cool and relaxing to be around.  Ally and I talked about it when we finished – that we just like the kid!  His mom joined us on the session and the session flew by.  Time flies when you have plenty to talk about and you’re having fun.

We actually started out at Jeremy’s house for the location part of the session so let’s begin there:

triple streak

Photographing at someone’s home is often a nice move – it makes it easier for our senior to hop inside to change with access to all their clothes, and if it’s a chilly day it’s easy for us to duck inside to warm up a little as well!

Here’s another shot from Jeremy’s house:

triple streak

Next let’s take a look at the behind the scenes vine of our afternoon…

The barn is not at their house so as you can see we went exploring a little in their neighborhood where we came across a little trail with a stream and some nice fall colors where we captured this shot…

triple streak

After a successful outing outdoors we then headed back to the studio for a couple photos where we got this one in the suit and tie on the black…

triple streak

So that’s a wrap on our triple streak of guys and all three of them were fantastic!  Jeremy was a good one to end on for now before we return back to the next few senior girls!  Hope you enjoyed the highlights from this session!

Hanging Downtown With David!

We were hanging downtown with David for his senior session – downtown Pontiac that is – for some cool urban shots.  We’ve hung out in and blogged about Pontiac before and we love shooting there!  Meanwhile we loved being with David and his mom and it was no surprise since we had a great time with David’s brother Alex a couple years ago for his senior pictures.  Alex was featured in the last photo on this blog post.  What a great family!

For David we started out in the studio and we spent a little time here with a couple different backgrounds before we headed out on location.  Let’s start with the grey…hanging downtown

Now that’s a good looking and confident guy!  Next we broke out the black for a few shots – here’s one:

hanging downtown

Just a good casual look for David there, and while David pulled it together pretty well for some nice smiles on these photos, we actually spent the better amount of the session laughing our butts off…  Our behind the scenes vine gives you a little taste of that…

The second half if you can’t tell is David “saving a sneeze”…  haha!

Okay so you could see from the vine that we are ready to move on to the location photos.  It was a chilly day but David was a total pro and was able to block out the cold for these shots:

hanging downtown

We love this particular set of steps of the entrance to this old building!  They’re the staircase to a big future for David!  Ha!

Here’s one more city shot against one of our favorite brick walls that you may have seen here before – the color just pops and we like David’s serious pose here.

hanging downtown

So we hope you enjoyed hanging downtown (and in the studio) with David!  We definitely did and we were happy to share these photos!

Photographic Greatness With Garrett!

Photographic greatness with Garrett was the deal on this perfect sunny fall day.  This senior knows how to pose, how to dress and how to have a good time, and the results are just awesome.  We’ve known Garrett for a couple years ever since he ended up hanging out with us at our Team Frameable Faces tent at the West Bloomfield Relay For Life a couple years ago.  We have been talking a lot over the last several posts about the exploring we have done on quite a few sessions lately, and Garrett led us to an “unauthorized” trail in the park to a stream deep in the woods that we didn’t know existed.  So cool!

We’ll get to that spot in a minute, but first let’s start like we did with Garrett – in the studio for a formal shot against our metallic silver background.  This one turned out really really cool – like right out of a magazine…

Greatness With Garrett

Now we’ll turn our attention to our location photos!  As with many of the recent seniors the fall colors were in full effect for Garrett and we’ll have more sessions to show you yet with the colors going forward.  Take a look at this one…!

Greatness With Garrett

Fantastic.  Let’s take a quick look at our fun behind the scenes vine of the day, including Ally commanding Garrett to “be mean”, as well as Garrett sitting on a log over the hidden stream – he walked across on that log which made both Ally and I pretty darn nervous…!

This next photo just seemed to scream black and white so here it is… Very dramatic looking of Garrett here.

Greatness With Garrett

Last but not least Ally loves this next one because she loves when guys wear pink!

Greatness With Garrett

So there it is – this was a top notch session – photographic greatness with Garrett indeed. We hope you enjoyed these photos from our day with him!

We Love Twin Sister Seniors! First Up: Nikki!

We love twin sister seniors!  What’s not to love?  There is just something nice about twins in general – they have a bond that the rest of us who aren’t twins may not totally understand, but it’s fun to watch on a day when we can be a part of something special like their senior pictures!  But it doesn’t end there… for these girls it was extra special because we did dance pictures for them for years when they were younger, so it’s really neat to see them so grown up!

We started in the studio so let’s start with a photo of Nikki on the black background…

twin sister seniors

Adorable right?  We didn’t spend a ton of time in the studio and from here on out we’ll look at some highlights of the location photos.  We think oranges, maroons and earth tones in general look nice when the fall colors are in full effect in Michigan and we love Nikki in the orange in this photo:   twin sister seniors

Let’s take a look at our fun behind the scenes vine of Nikki from the day!  You’ll notice that we posted Nikki’s vine second, but we flipped it for the blog posts…  haha!

We actually found a new trail that we hadn’t used before on this session that we named for the girls (constant readers you know that’s how we roll) and we found perfect twin trees there for them!  Take a look at this shot of Nikki and Lindsay together – love this!

twin sister seniors

Now back to Nikki – we have two more to show you on a bridge that you’ve probably seen on this blog before…

twin sister seniors

And one more – this time a full length of Nikki just being cute in the other direction…

twin sister seniors

So there you have it – so this is “part one” and the plan is to bring you “part two” tomorrow, so be sure to check back and see Lindsay’s post!

Leah Returns With Plenty Of Looks And Laughs!

For this post we are pleased to present photos from one of our class of 2015 seniors who has been featured on our blog before as a spokesmodel.  We’ve had a great time with Leah and one of the reasons is she “gets” it when it comes to our studio.  She has from the first minute she started bopping in here to hang out with us a couple years ago, and she’s been known to just be here hanging out on any given day, even helping us by adding her two cents in client meetings about our approach and her experiences with us.  She is always flowing with ideas, and she’s also been known to crack up at the drop of a dime.  So when Leah returns for a photo session of her own we know there will be plenty of looks and plenty of laughs!

We already knew Leah would rock her session because she killed it on her spokesmodel shoot in a snowstorm which was one of our more memorable days.  This time around she wanted to wait for the fall colors, but before we head out on location let’s start with a studio photo:

Leah Returns

Leah had been talking about the red couch for a while so we spent some time on that set up – even getting her dogs into the mix, but here we focused on this close crop of just her.  Beautiful!  We would also like to give a little shout out to Shifra Raskin down the hall from our studio for such a great job on Leah’s makeup!

Now let’s get to the location photos…  first we started with the fountain in Birmingham which makes for a very pretty backdrop with a wall of white water…

Leah Returns

Here is our hilarious behind the scenes vine where the various “wildlife” had their say…  You can see a glimpse of the laughs I referred to earlier…

Now let’s focus on the nature shots.  First with a close up and some green…

Leah Returns

And last but not least the beautiful fall colors!

Leah Returns

So pretty!!!  Leah delivered again as we knew she would, and we hope you enjoyed these photos, looks and laughs from her session!

Melissa’s Senior Session Just Makes Us Smile!

Melissa’s senior session just makes us smile because she is such a sweetie, and when you have a senior who is just nice and fun to be around it’s particularly satisfying when the photos turn out so well!  We also grabbed a spot that we hadn’t thought about before – just a brick archway that we pass by all the time but on this day the red leaves of the tree next to it caught Ally’s eye – I think photographing Melissa just had Ally inspired.  Ha!  We’ll get to that in a bit…

Meanwhile we started out in the studio with the brown background which is an underrated studio color for seniors.  It works particularly well with Melissa’s skin tone – just a beautiful photo wouldn’t you say?

Makes Us Smile

She is so darn cute.  Her mom also came along for the shoot and she was great – we enjoyed our time together with both of them!  We headed out on location and started with a different view of our recently discovered meadow that we love.

Makes Us Smile

Just loving the sea of fall colors in that shot….  Michigan in the fall is so incredible!

Now here is our fun behind the scenes vine of the day…

…which leads us to the brick archway I mentioned before.  Sometimes you just have to open your eyes to see your world around you in a different way…

Makes Us Smile

Last but not least we relocated to a spot where this wrought iron fence has been good to us lately for this closely cropped photo of our beautiful senior.  It’s hard not to gush about this girl!

Makes Us Smile

So now you see why indeed Melissa’s senior session just makes us smile.  We hope it made you smile too!

No Sun? No Problem For Sara’s Superb Session!

Sara had a great session here recently on an afternoon that gave us a completely overcast sky.  Logic might tell you that you want “nice” weather outside for senior pictures with lots of sunshine, but we promise we are not just trying to make our seniors feel better when we say overcast skies are perfect for shooting!  When the light is not coming from just one direction than you can photograph in any direction and choose any angle you like!  Diffused light is great light, and that’s what we had for Sara.  So, no sun?  No problem!

We’ll get to the outdoor stuff in a sec, but first let’s take a peak at a studio shot we did on the black background.  This is our black and blowy setup, and even though her hair isn’t totally “blowy” it’s only because of her beautiful thick curls, and don’t her eyes look incredible?  This would be a good time to give a shout out to Shifra Raskin whose studio is right down the hall from us for the wonderful job on Sara’s makeup.

no sun no problem

Next it was time to head outside where Sara’s mom met us for the location shoot.  Sara’s mom is funny, and we also have to mention that Sara is clearly well liked because on at least two separate occasions around the time of her session when telling someone we were photographing her the response was “Oh I LOVE Sara!!!”

no sun no problem

As you are starting to see with these October photos we are starting to get a lot more fall colors and we had some here for Sara!  You would never know it was a “dreary” day – the setting looks great, the lighting looks great, and Sara looks great!  This ground level bridge is a nice little recent find as well…

no sun no problem

Here is our fun behind the scenes vine of the afternoon!

And lastly we’ll leave you with this one – the beautiful fall orange and the beautiful eyes…

no sun no problem

So there it is!  We had a great day with Sara – and as we said, no sun?  No problem!
