Sometimes life happens – things get crazy, you’re raising kids and it’s the glorious chaos of life, right? Heba is a perfect example of this with the story of this session – first let’s just say at the end of the day she has 4 amazing kids and just an overall fabulous Frameable family! 4 kids ranging from 15 to 3 – which we know ain’t always easy, but judging by the results we have to give it up to her and Vinny – they are pulling it off in style. Meanwhile Heba stopped in here a year ago to plan a family session and then it didn’t happen – like the first sentence I typed above life happened! We had almost forgotten about her – almost. But when she popped back in with a huge friendly smile asking “remember me?” I absolutely did and we were thrilled that she came back! Her little man was turning 3 and the timing was good for them to get this scheduled. So without further adieu let’s take a look – we’re going to present these a little differently than we usually would because we LOVE the 4 close ups of the children which Heba will be displaying in her home along with the family portrait!
Fabulous Frameable Family!
Let’s start with the traditional family portrait – what a gorgeous crew. The little guy and I bonded – we were giving each other “two thumbs up” to get ready for each shot and he was a total pro – and I gotta tell you, not all 3 year olds are the easiest to photograph, but we usually can get it done and with this little one there was no problem.
So here is the Fabulous Frameable Family:
….and here are the children in order from oldest to youngest with matching close crop black and white portraits! Love these.
Stunning right? We really enjoyed having this crew in the studio, and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our time with them!

Sammy is a future chef in the making – the dude can create some serious culinary concoctions and he knows quality when he tastes it so you know if he has any say at all in the menu at his bar mitzvah that it’s gonna be gooooooood – a scrumptious soirée! And in this case the food didn’t disappoint! We know because we were there – as guests, because Sammy is our nephew! Ally did indeed take a few photos at the weekday service at Adat Shalom Synagogue which we’ll share here, but the bulk of these highlights come from the event and is the work of our fantastic event photographer Angela! Let’s start with a few photos from the small chapel earlier in the week at shul.
What a legacy…
Sammy’s great grandfather was the cantor at Adat Shalom for many years so it was very special for Sammy to carry on that tradition as the first of his generation within that family to become a Bar Mitzvah. Here are a few highlights as Sammy leads the service and does the name proud:
Sammy reads from the Torah
Sammy with his dad and maternal grandfather putting on tefillin
Sammy and his parents receive a blessing from the Rabbi
Let’s get to the Scrumptious Soirée!
The party was held at the Royal Oak Farmer’s Market – a great wide open space for a bash! The food was off the charts with Asian, Mexican, and Israeli stations for food and everyone had a blast – I know we did! Sammy had a ton of fun on his big day for sure.
The Whole Scene!
Sammy gets a lift during the traditional Hora Dance!
Haha – think he was enjoying this?
Sammy with his peeps
The Bar Mitzvah Stud
That’s a great shot by Angela of Sammy!
The Happy Family!
Sammy kicks back and takes it in
“Then and Now” Sammy!
What is hilarious about that shot is Sammy is recreating the big photo that was taken by Ally when Sammy was only 2!
Stacy & Jason get to relax and enjoy the celebration!
We love that last shot – the way Angela framed Stacy and Jason with all the celebratory raised glasses is perfect! All in all it was a day and a night to remember at Sammy’s Scrumptious Soirée! We hope you enjoyed the highlights!

We get excited when Shaista brings back the whole crew! We started photographing her kids shortly after we opened our studio space here in the Orchard Mall and they are just an awesome family – great kids and much fun to have around. The wrinkle this time was that Shaista brought her husband Shabbir to get the whole family in the photos! There’s a little story here – we’ve known Shaista and the kids for years but we never met Shabbir before so the running joke was that he wasn’t real – that we didn’t believe he existed. Haha! Well we can now say he does indeed exist and he’s as delightful as we would have expected. I joked with him that we thought he was a phantom and he replied “Hey I was out working hard for these guys!” Now that’s a good guy. So without further adieu let’s take a look at some sneak peeks of this fabulous session!
Shaista Brings Back The Whole Crew…
Let’s start with the whole fam in a portrait with traditional dress which is always a joy – such vibrant colors against the brown earth tones… love this:
What an awesome group!
We also have some video replays from the live broadcasts we did during the session for a little behind the scenes fun – first on YouTube Live which we just started doing some of – you can subscribe to our channel here!
Next let’s focus in on a photo of just the happy couple!
They look fantastic!
We also have a little more behind the scenes fun this time from the Facebook Live broadcast we did:
They’re Growing UP!!!
Now let’s focus on the kids! We have a couple of photos of the 4 of them being, well…..the 4 of them! Haha!
First in the traditional clothing…
And next in some casual gear…. love it!
So fun!!! You can tell they were having a blast – being kids but still really well behaved – love them!
And there you have it – when Shaista brings back the whole crew we have a ton of fun. We hope you enjoyed the sneak peeks from their session!

NELLLLLLLLLMAAAAAA!!! Okay we need to explain. We met Nelma through Periscope and we’ve known her for quite some time now. We both used to host game shows on a network called “Play For Stuff”, were hanging out in the same circles in the Periscope community and we have consequently spent plenty of time in each other’s broadcasts. Nelma actually named our living room in the studio “the parlor” and one of our couches is named for her too………..and she’s never actually set foot in our studio. She lives in Pensacola, Florida with her husband Alfie and their adorable daughter Lydia. That just speaks to the amazing madness that is Periscope, and we have no idea how this piece started but anytime Nelma jumps into one of our broadcasts she’s greeted with “NELLLLLLMAAAAA!!!” by the two of us in unison.
So eventually as we’ve documented here we got the idea to plan a road trip for Spring Break that would include photo sessions since we are asked quite often if we would travel to do them. The Frameable Faces Spring Tour started to take shape and when we said we were coming south to Florida, Nelma said “sign me up”! We were so excited to finally meet her and to photograph her family! We met in downtown Pensacola on the back end of a drive all the way up the state from Del Ray just in time for great light and really nice conditions at Plaza Ferdinand VII in the center of town!
Nelma and Her Fabulous Fam…
Let’s start with a fun pic of the three of them…
And how about one of just Nelma and Alfie?
They’re awesome. As delightful in person as we expected!
As usual we have some behind the scenes fun for you – we did a Periscope broadcast and here is the replay! You can follow us and join in the fun at this link or you can just check it out from Twitter here.
Now let’s talk about sweet little Lydia! She is 4 and she is such a cutie!
So adorable! And such a little character – we had a lot of fun with her.
Love that one!
And that’s the one we’ll leave you with! Let’s also give a little shout out to check out her online store Beach Baby Couture with custom letter blankets and all sorts of other custom bedding, quilts, clothing – you name it! We saw her home shop where she makes all of these items – we were really impressed! We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our time with Nelma and thanks for reading!

Boy does a year go by fast… this story is one of the more epic tales in Frameable Faces lore to be sure and we continue to tell it here. It started with an “emergency” maternity session phone call from Nick and Jen that you can read about here. Another photography studio’s mistake became the start of a friendship for us and some memorable moments with Jeralyn (who was once known lovingly in the Frameable Faces community as the “sharting baby” because of a hilarious little poop mishap during her newborn session that you can see and read about here)! Now Jeralyn is ONE and she returned to the studio for an adorable photo session from which we want to share a few images with you!
Jeralyn Is ONE!
So we have some great stuff to show you here. We love doing “baby plans” where our peeps come in for maternity, newborn, 6 month, and one year photos because we get to be a part of such a wonderful and exciting year, and then at the end we get to put together some stages – like a “watch me grow” storyboard! Like this:
Newborn, 6 months, and one year!!!
So much fun – perfectly displayed on a wall printed to 10″ x 30″ in a frame!
As for the rest of the one year session here are some of the other highlights…
How beautiful is she? Loving the hair… 🙂
Jeralyn also likes blocks. Who doesn’t like blocks?
Actually props in general are fun…
We also have some fun behind the scenes (of course)… let’s start with the replay from Facebook Live:
At this point we broke out the sari that we used for all three sessions as you saw above in the storyboard – so pretty as the backdrop for this adorable close up!
LOVE the thumb…
What’s great about our Periscope replay is often when people say you should photograph the parents being silly trying to get the kids to smile……well we got Jen at the beginning of this broadcast. Haha! If you want to join in the fun on Periscope download the app and follow us at @FrameableFaces here or if you just want to check it out from Twitter you can do that here.
Doug&Allywith Jeralyn for her ONE YEAR photos!!! This is pure happy. https://t.co/CtXjqEU7cp
The last thing we’ll leave you with you could say is the coup de grâce from this session…
Just all around cuteness with the one year expressions! So yes Jeralyn is ONE and it really has been a delightful year photographing her! We hope you enjoyed the highlights!!!

We took the show on the road for the Frameable Faces Spring Tour 2017 and it was an amazing odyssey through the deep South of America! The trip took us over 4000 miles through seven states, three Civil War Battlefields, two college football stadiums, encounters with alligators, sharks, deer, roosters, tortoises, salamanders, and various other wildlife, two photo sessions, friends, family, and a whole lot more…!
The Frameable Faces Spring Tour 2017!
Our basic route!
We Periscoped, Tweeted, Snapchatted, and photographed our way around this amazing country and we loved it. So let’s recap in order – hope you enjoy reliving the tour with us!
Here’s where it all starts – we were so excited…. hehe.
A rocky start…
Day 1 was brutal. We wanted to leave at 3 and didn’t get on the road until 4:30. Okay fine – that’s not unusual, but it took us TWO hours to get to the Ohio border which should only take an hour. There was awful traffic and the weather was horrible, in fact it poured sheets of rain almost the whole way to Chattanooga with major thunderstorms. So I white knuckled it with my eyes burning doing about 50 MPH most of the way and we didn’t get in until 3:30AM. Ugh. But even though Ally, Lacey and I (not Tony) have switched to a plant-based diet we suspended that for our traditional first meal at Skyline Chili along the way…
5-Way Chili!!!
We got a slow start the next day obviously, and we made it down to Gainesville, FL the second night to stay with our friend Cathy Hackl and her family – we’ve known Cathy almost 2 years now from Periscope and we’ve hung out together in Northern Michigan, California and Florida – we did family portraits for her before and those highlights are here on the blog.
Here’s the first Periscope broadcast of the trip just checking in with our peeps from the road in Georgia on the way to Gainesville – Ally handled the broadcast while I kept focused on the road… If you don’t have Periscope yet you can download it and follow us at @frameablefaces at this link.
We had a nice visit and Cathy took us over to the University of Florida campus the next morning to check out the campus and “The Swamp” – their football stadium which was pretty cool. We Periscoped from the stadium as well!
From there we headed down to Delray Beach on Saturday where my parents stay for the winter and we had a couple of great days down there with them, but not before a quick stop in Kissimmee to see Scott and Kristi – aka @FloridaPlunge on Periscope. Check out their website FLORIDAPLUNGE.com!
Scott & Kristi – @FloridaPlunge!
In Delray Beach we visited with cousins and friends, got a little sunburned on the beach (ouch) and took a little drive over to Alligator Alley on I-75 to look for gators which we did the last time we were down there too… This time we only saw a few in the first few minutes of the Periscope we did…
Wednesday Morning we woke up and got on the road down to see my old college teammate Steve and his wife Amy, their daughter Jamie, and their various pets…. The drive alone down to the Keys is spectacular and we Periscoped part of it once again with Ally manning the iPhone and me doing the driving!
We stopped along the way in Tavernier to grab a key lime pie at the Blonde Giraffe – best key lime pie in the Keys! We snapchatted the pie (which as a side note you can see at the end of this post).
Once we arrived at Steve’s house we settled in for a couple days of eating stone crab claws, lobster, cobia, and barrel fish – so delicious…. We were also happy to see Peanut – Steve’s pet tortoise…. He was tiny last time we saw him – maybe the size of a basketball. He’s grown quite a bit…
Steve helping Tony feed peanut in 2005
Here’s a short clip of when Peanut walked over to say hello (he actually scared the crap out of me a few minutes before this)…
Here’s an extended Periscope replay of Peanut chowing down on some salad.
We went back down to Key West on Friday morning for a snorkel adventure where we saw a 5 foot nurse shark!!! I bought a waterproof case for my iPhone but found it way too difficult to manage especially with an iPhone 7 because of the “taptic engine” button that wouldn’t work through the plastic… so I have no photos underwater. But that’s okay – it was amazing. We saw plenty of ocean life including a huge grouper, colorful coral and plenty of other fish at the reef in addition to the shark.
After more key lime pie (on a stick) at Kermit’s we headed back to Steve’s for a brief hangout and group shot before we said goodbye…
To Pensacola…
The drive up to Pensacola from Delray Beach is a haul… but we got up early and arrived in the late afternoon for a photo session with our friend Nelma, her husband Alfie and their sweet little one Lydia! We’ll save that Periscope for the separate blog post of her sneak peeks but in the meantime here’s a couple tidbits – a panorama I grabbed with my iPhone of Ally photographing them in Plaza Ferdinand VII (more on that below in the snap story)….
….and here is a little behind the scenes collage we posted on Instagram.
We stayed with our cousins Daria and David in Pensacola and the following morning (Sunday) we drove first to Mobile to visit a certain Sock friend of ours….
Definitely one of the most fun Periscopes we’ve ever done! We had a great visit with Jason and Amanda (Sock Cop hangs out with them from time to time… lol)!
On to Biloxi…
From there we drove to Biloxi, MS to do a photo session with another friend we met through Periscope – Lana and her (now) hubby Chase! You can see the sneak peeks and read all about that at this link, and in the meantime here is the behind the scenes collage we posted from that session on Instagram…
We stuck around for an extra day in Pensacola and celebrated Passover with our cousins so with the extra time we went over to the Gulf Islands National Seashore where the beaches are gorgeous and where you can take a walk through Fort Pickens which the Union controlled throughout the Civil War.
White sands….
I think this panorama that I took of Fort Pickens is pretty cool….
Starting the long trek home…
We headed out on Tuesday morning towards Mississippi bound for Hattiesburg and Vicksburg. We made a stop at Southern Miss University to visit our friends the Hopsons – Jay is the head coach for the Golden Eagles and we hadn’t seen them since his 2 years coaching the linebackers at Michigan. We had been through Hattiesburg once before on a road trip, the campus is really nice and their stadium “The Rock” is very cool.
From there we raced to Vicksburg National Military Park to check out the battlefield before it got too late…..and it was kinda too late – to drive the park anyway. But we were able to walk a few miles of it and it is really impressive.
Vicksburg Great Redoubt
Michigan Monument at Vicksburg
From there we drove all the way up the Mississippi Delta on Highway 61 to Memphis where we spent the night. If you ever make that drive from Vicksburg MAKE SURE you have gas…. there are zero gas stations for about an hour. Heck there’s almost zero civilization for about an hour…
After a yummy breakfast at Staks Pancake Kitchen with one of Lacey’s friends in Memphis the next morning we made the final leg of the drive back to home sweet home but not without a stop first at Parker’s Crossroads Battlefield in Tennessee….
Hallowed Ground of the Parkers Crossroads Battlefield
….and a stop to visit with one of our favorite seniors of all time Kim (who was also an intern for us) in Nashville where she has been working since finishing her undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt!
And with one more stop to visit another one of Lacey’s friends in Louisville, we headed all the way back home. Home sweet home, in our own beds, exhausted and fulfilled by our Spring Tour 2017 – an incredible odyssey through a large swath of the USA that we’ll never forget!!! We hoped you enjoyed the recap and we’ll leave you with the entire snap story from the trip – additional photos and fun with all the geofilters intact!

We have been live streaming on Periscope (and now Facebook Live too) for almost two years and the best thing about it has been meeting all the great people we’ve met from around the world. We continue to broadcast live 5-6 days per week and we continue to meet new people like Rachel Moore whom we met just within the last few months. Rachel has a social media marketing company called Really Social in Colorado and she hosts a Twitter Chat and live stream show every Wednesday afternoon at 3 PM EST called LetsLivestream. Once we connected she started inviting me to join the weekly conversations which then led to her asking us to be guests on the show. We happily accepted and it was a great discussion on Live Streaming for small businesses which is something I’ve learned a lot about in the last couple years…
Our Appearance on LetsLivestream!
Here is the actual replay of the show from Facebook Live if you want to check it out:
The format of the show is pretty cool – Rachel asks 8 questions about the topic and then anyone watching the show can tweet their own answers to participate with an A1 – A8 and the hashtag #LetsLivestream on twitter. Here is a Storify slideshow of the questions along with my twitter answers and some of the others that were tweeted if you want to just flip through:
Meanwhile just to summarize some of my main points (and a few follow up ones)….
How We Live Stream and What You Should Consider If You Are Thinking About It For Your Business
What is Live Streaming?
We have been live streaming now since April 2015 just one week after Periscope was launched by Twitter. At its simplest form you download the app, login, give your broadcast a title, hit the “start broadcast” button and start recording with the camera on your phone. Only you’re not just recording, you’re broadcasting LIVE to the people who follow your account, and they can make comments with their keyboard that you can see on your screen! Completely interactive. We’ve met people far and wide around the world doing this as our brand Frameable Faces – you can check out our channel here. The same thing goes for Facebook when you select the “Live” option and you can broadcast to your Facebook friends, fans of your business page and even groups you’re a member of. The options are many and they keep growing and morphing to other platforms as well (Instagram, YouTube etc.).
What’s the Strategy?
As our audience grew we started to develop shows and concepts, a schedule of broadcasting and ways of repurposing the replays on our blog and elsewhere to promote our studio. On the LetsLivestream show I discuss various elements of the strategy including the benefits, how you can grow a community around your brand, how small businesses have a big advantage since you can do this with barely any budget and connect with your audience without five levels of approval and red tape that big corporations have to deal with. Live Streaming as with other forms of social media is a way to promote what you do and drive traffic to your owned online assets such as a website and self hosted blog – in our case they are both right here at frameablefaces.com.
What Exactly Should You Live Stream About?
If you’re a small business share your expertise, be fun and be vulnerable – it’s LIVE so it won’t be perfect, and your imperfections can make you real. People will see how you react to questions and situations and they will want to work with you if you acquit yourself well. Involve your clients, show your process, go behind the scenes, highlight your partners, vendors, even your friendly competition! Show variety and provide value!!! Where many business owners who try to create content online fail is that they don’t look at their services and products as vehicles to tell stories and build community! If you do this you won’t run out of things to say like so many do. Your strategy will be sustainable when you look to your community for content and then give back to your community. The cool part is you can build community fast with live streaming because it’s such a visceral and participatory experience.
Be social – DUH…
We didn’t really discuss this on LetsLivestream and it should be obvious but you. Must. Be. Social. On. SocialMedia. With Live Streaming you need to network, network, network – go into other broadcasts and watch others. Jump in and join in the real time conversation – other broadcasters are very appreciative when people contribute to their show with comments that are on point. You’ll start to meet and connect with other people watching and commenting in the broadcasts who share your interests and you’ll join each other’s communities! You cannot just be a broadcaster and reach the full potential for success, just like you can’t just post stuff on Facebook without ever commenting and engaging right? It’s the same thing on Live Streaming but it’s even more important there because it’s real time!
Hope you enjoyed this and found it valuable! Please let me know in the comments if you have anything to add!

Pamela had been here in our studio before for some headshots and she is a delightful gal! So when she called us to come back to the studio we were excited – even more so when she informed us that she would be bringing her hubby Michael and their French Bulldog George!!! You have to love French Bulldogs, and George is a character – we knew this would make for a doggone great session!
Doggone Great…
This session was done totally in the studio and we started out with a Detroit Tiger theme which really works with our orange chair! George was totally coordinated with Pamela and Michael and ready to roll – here’s a full length family portrait to start with…
So fun right?
Now we’ll zoom in for a couple closer crops…
George was getting plenty of lovin’! Happy pup!
We also have some great behind the scenes fun from the shoot where we get up close and personal with George with the replay of our live Periscope broadcast! If you want to join in the fun on our channel on Periscope you can do it by following us at @FrameableFaces here or if you are on twitter and just want to watch from there you can at this link.
Let’s get back to a couple more photos now – one more close up this time just of the happy couple!
How cute are they?
And now we have an outfit change and the black couch for a little bit more formal look:
George was stylin’!!! And there you have it – you have to agree with us that these photos are indeed doggone great! We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our time with Pamela, Michael and George!

Neil was pretty darn cute when he was here as a little bitty baby, and – no surprise – he’s still pretty darn cute as a two year old! He came back to the studio with his minions even though it was him who was dressed as one! Haha… Parmesh and Nalini are great – we laugh quite a bit when we’re together here in the studio and we had another winning session this time around with different outfits, plenty of toys and plenty of food too!
Neil Is Pretty Darn Cute…
So let’s start right in with the minion outfit to get right into the cuteness…
We also have some fun behind the scenes action from the session with our replay of our live Periscope broadcast! You can follow us on Periscope at @FrameableFaces at this link to join in the fun or you can also watch from Twitter at this link!
Love that one!!! “Pretty Darn Cute” is pretty darn accurate wouldn’t you say?
That’s a happy kid with plenty of toys for the session…..
And how about a family shot to close it out?
So fun!!! So there you have it! Neil was back and he’s still pretty darn cute. We hope you enjoyed our highlights of our day with them!

Okay so let me explain… Many of you know our event photographer Angela aka “Nikon Girl”. Angela has been with us since she walked into the studio on February 11th, 2011 asking if we were looking for a photographer. She was still a photography student then but she had her little portfolio with her and Ally saw something in her photos, so we kidnapped her that very day and took her on location with us. She just fit. She’s always just fit, and she has grown so much as a photographer (even though she shoots with Nikon….haha – as you know Ally shoots with Canon)! She has captured so many amazing moments for our clients at Bar & Bat Mitzvahs, Communions, Weddings, and various other parties and events! Meanwhile she has grown in other ways too – like personally! She’s expecting a little one with her fiancé Cam now and so here we turn the tables and make Angela the subject of a photo session here on the blog! The first “official” Frameable Faces Fam baby is on the way!
Frameable Faces Fam Baby On The Way….
Oh – and it’s a girl! So here we go – this maternity session was just the cutest and a bit surreal too!
So beautiful – love the half black and white filter on this one… so serene.
We spent some time in the studio first and Cam jumped in for a few too! We also have some fun behind the scenes action for you – first we have the replay of the live Periscope broadcast that we did on our Tuesday afternoon show on ParachuteTV1 which was the very first network of its kind on Periscope. Our show is every Tuesday and it’s a photography show at 2 PM EST called The Photo Shop! You can follow ParachuteTV1 on Periscope here, or you can follow our own @FrameableFaces channel and be a part of the fun here.
And yes – we went outside to get some photos in the snow!!! We have a little more behind the scenes fun to share for this – this time from Facebook Live:
So we’ll leave you with one more photo – one of our favorite maternity shots we’ve ever done I have to say….
Angela is beautiful in every way – inside and out and she is going to be an amazing mommy. We can’t wait to meet the baby – the first Frameable Faces Fam Baby! We are so proud of our Nikon Girl and so happy for her and Cam! We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day!
