A Dazzling Day In Detroit With Dani For Her Senior Pictures!

We gushed about Dani plenty when we blogged about her spokesmodel session and after knowing her for about 6 months as she’s represented the studio for the class of 2018 we can say with certainty it was all justified.  We LOVE this girl and we definitely had a dazzling day with her in Detroit!  Her mom Diana came along for the fun and as you’ll see it was a session to remember.

Dazzling Day With Dani

Many of the highlights of this session ended up being in The Belt which we’ll get to, but we started out on Belle Isle and captured this stunner:

Dazzling Day

Wow – dazzling right?  I also have to say that I’ve been playing around with the new Snapchat filters on my iPhone for some of the behind the scenes stuff we put on our Snapchat stories and I think this one of Ally capturing the photo of Dani above is worth including here – like a cool little painting…

Meanwhile we have the YouTube live broadcast replay from Belle Isle as well for you here:

Now let’s head over to The Belt in downtown Detroit where we captured some real winners!

Dazzling Day

Love it – and here is the behind the scenes Facebook Live broadcast replay that goes with that shot:

Her outfit seemed to be just perfect for the colors there too….

Dazzling Day

We also went to an art gallery there that rotates installations of different mediums and we’ve been lucky enough to be there when they invited us in to take photos.  That’s where this last one was captured:

Dazzling Day

So cool!  And there you have it – a dazzling day in Detroit with Dani indeed!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights!

A Perfect Day In Detroit Photographing Jordyn Is Our Jam!

We’ve had a ball photographing Jordyn while she’s been representing our studio as a spokesmodel for the class of 2018, and a perfect day in Detroit photographing Jordyn is definitely our jam.  As was the case with Jordyn’s spokesmodel session this was a family affair with mom Stacy, dad Eric, and even older sister Sydney met up with us for part of the day!  The game plan here other than the yearbook headshot at the studio was to explore Detroit and explore Detroit we did!

In Detroit Photographing Jordyn…

We started out at Belle Isle which is where we spent a good deal of time.  The more we shoot there the more great spots we find.  The first photo we’ll highlight is of Jordyn at the James Scott Memorial Fountain:

Detroit Photographing Jordyn

Great spot, great backlight, great senior!  As I said we roamed around the island and even stopped at the beach for a few yoga poses as you’ll see in this fun behind the scenes replay of our Facebook Live video we did!

Here’s another photo with the unique aesthetic of looking through a natural window at our girl…

Detroit Photographing Jordyn

So cool and Jordyn looks amazing!

To Eastern Market…

At this point we headed over to the Eastern Market area for some murals to play with and some grit and we found plenty of both!  First the mural:

Detroit Photographing Jordyn

Knowing where your light is and how to use it is key…. love the backlight on Jordyn’s hair once again!

We also have some more fun behind the scenes here as we headed into one of our fave empty buildings – this time from the replay of our YouTube Live video:

And the result with the grit:

Detroit Photographing JordynAwesome shot to finish with!  Yes being in Detroit photographing Jordyn is definitely our jam and you can see why!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

Capturing Cara With Some Completely Cool Shots In Detroit!

Capturing Cara has become plenty fun for us here – she is a current spokesmodel for the class of 2018 so you may have seen her here before on her spokesmodel session, and she rocked her return!  Cara’s brother Ben was a Frameable senior as well and parents Gina and Kenny round out a great family!  Gina came on the session with us and we knew we’d be in for a fun time as long as the weather held up – for a while there the forecast wasn’t looking good but we lucked out!  We headed down to the D and started out on Belle Isle…

Capturing Cara!

Here’s a spectacular shot of Cara with the Detroit River and the Renaissance Center in the background!

Capturing Cara

There are so many amazing spots on Belle Isle – here’s a little behind the scenes fun from our YouTube Live broadcast there!

…and one more shot before we focus on the Eastern Market area….

Capturing Cara

LOVE this with the yellow and black with Cara being framed by some yellow too!

At this point we headed over to the Eastern Market and Dequindre Cut to take advantage of the many murals and locations to work with there.  Let’s start with Cara with a mural backdrop:

Capturing Cara

Loving it…

Let’s also see some more behind the scenes fun from our Facebook Live broadcast while we were down there!

And one more from this doorway we found – Cara was in the zone at this point – capturing Cara was a breeze!

Capturing Cara

A great day to be sure and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day capturing Cara!

Reaching An Even Higher Level With Lauren Back In Detroit!

Yes we are huge fans of Lauren and her mom Gabrielle, and it’s been so much fun having Lauren represent our studio as a spokesmodel for the class of 2018!  Her spokesmodel session was truly epic and we spent much of it in Detroit at the old Michigan Building and around Eastern Market.  It was one of those sessions that sticks out for sure – just awesome.  So we had a slight dilemma – we loved exploring around Detroit and they wanted to go back for Lauren’s senior session.  Hey we’re always up for a Detroit session since there is so much going on down there and so many amazing places to shoot.  The question was could we possibly top what we already did down there?  Hmmmmm….  Could we reach an even higher level with Lauren?

Reaching an even higher level with Lauren…

Ally predicted that we would indeed be able to kick it up yet another notch.  And frankly I was confident too – we usually do.  We suggested Belle Isle which hadn’t been on Lauren’s radar but she trusted us.  Besides there was a little discussion around whether a beach shot might be nice – we had never used the Belle Isle Beach.  So we set out with plenty of possibility and adventure in the air and the results?  Well…… see for yourself.

Higher Level

Great one to start with right?  Love the framing of our girl with the vines!

We also have plenty of behind the scenes fun as usual with some live broadcast replays (excuse my raggedy voice – I was recovering from being pretty well under the weather for a few days).  First we went live on YouTube.  If you want to tune in to other broadcasts be sure to hit the red subscribe button at our channel!

We ended up spending a ton of time on Belle Isle – some shots at the fountain, a few at the willow tree above, and a few over by the conservatory including this colorful one with all the pretty flowers surrounding Lauren!

Higher Level

I also had a little fun of my own with the pano feature on my iPhone – just for fun here is one at the conservatory that I thought was kind of cool…

Higher Level

AMATEUR iPhone panoramic photo for fun!

Next we headed around to the other side of the island to the beach which we pretty much had to ourselves and this turned out to be a great call!  Here is the fun behind the scenes Facebook Live broadcast replay where Gabrielle even took over for a few minutes as guest host as I struggled a little with the wind trying to reflect some light on our subject!

And here is one of the fantastic results.  LOVE this of Lauren…

Higher Level

So yeah…. awesome stuff at Belle Isle!  But we weren’t done….

To The Belt!

The Belt is a very cool alley in downtown Detroit where we’ve taken photos several times and Lauren had her eye on it so we headed over there for a few and we found this ultra cool art gallery there.  They let us come right in and shoot, and sometimes these unplanned things prove to be major highlights!  I took another pano while Ally was setting this one up…

Higher Level

Another AMATEUR iPhone panoramic photo for fun!

And here is the result!!!

Higher Level

Wow right???

What a day – we actually finished it up with lunch at Johnny Noodle King and it was the perfect end to a day we won’t soon forget as we indeed reached a higher level with Lauren in our Detroit return!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day!

Cami Was CAMI-RA Ready In An Epic Senior Session in Detroit!

Cami was certainly “CAMI-RA ready” for her senior session takeover of Detroit!  We’re very punny here at Frameable Faces.  This was an epic session not like any before it and you’ll see why in a bit.  Meanwhile let’s talk about Cami.  We’ve known this girl for a long time and we actually photographed her brother Kyle for his senior pictures, but our relationship with Cami goes way back before that when a party favor from a Cami birthday party in the form of a music CD mix became the standard in the Cohen mini van for a good chunk of our kids childhoods!  The “Cami Disc” was awesome!  We still talk about it from over a decade ago…  We’ve known Cami since she was 3 and she and our Lacey were in dance class together at Studio A the year it opened, so this girl has always had a special place in our hearts.  She’s got it together too – she plans to be a nurse!  We really had an amazing day with her and her mom Bonnie!

Cami was CAMI-RA Ready…

We started in the studio for a couple of quick photos with the plan to spend the majority of our time downtown.  Here’s one on the black background before we head out on location…

Cami

Definitely Cami-Ra ready!  She looks fantastic!

Of course we have plenty of behind the scenes fun and here is the replay of the first Facebook Live broadcast from the studio!

Heading to Detroit!

At this point we packed up and headed downtown for what was supposed to be a trip to Belle Isle and then maybe Eastern Market for some murals and whatever else we might find… well that didn’t happen.  Okay well Belle Isle happened – and we love this red bridge there!

Cami

Beautiful!  The lighting was great even if it was a little chilly…

Meanwhile there would be no Eastern Market for us on this day…  Instead Ally had seen one of our clients post a few pics of an old theater downtown that is now a parking garage – the Michigan Building.  It’s like a post-apocalyptic scene in there and Ally thought this would be a cool spot – Cami was sold immediately so we went down there, and WOW.  Ally’s jaw hit the floor when we walked in – so cool!

Here’s the behind the scenes broadcast from Periscope.  You can follow us there at @FrameableFaces at this link or see our broadcasts on Twitter here

Here’s one of our results from the theater…

Cami

The first shot of its kind for us but certainly not the last…

We were enamored enough with the place that we broadcasted once more on Facebook Live where you’ll see how we improvised with our minivan headlights (shout out to Bonnie for working the lighting from the cockpit lol) as we started to lose some light and the last shot we’ll leave you with came out really cool…

And here is one of the photos from that setup:

Cami

Love it!!!  Yes Cami was Cami-ra ready and we were ready to make some magic which we did on her pioneering session!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day, and we’ll leave you with the Snapchat story from the day complete with the squad selfie at the end!

A Perfect Day Of Surreal Proportions For Jeremy’s Senior Session!

Our day with Jeremy was one of those days when planets seem to align in ways that don’t seem remotely realistic on a number of levels…  Just a perfect day of surreal proportions!  It starts with Jeremy’s mom Karen – and this is not meant to embarrass her at all, in fact it’s just really cute.  Karen wasn’t sure Jeremy would really be into doing a fun and involved senior session, and she wasn’t sure she would be invited if he agreed to it.  Now keep in mind – this is not out of the ordinary and has nothing to do with whether Jeremy is a great kid (he is) and whether or not the two of them have a good relationship (they do), it’s just that some seniors (and especially senior guys) are more excited for this than others, and not all parents come to senior sessions.  It’s probably about 60-40 that they do.  Some moms know they’ll hover too much and affect the session, some teenagers are just, well, teenagers.  Lots of factors involved.  There’s no doubt that Karen wanted to be there though – she just didn’t want Jeremy to feel obligated to have her and wasn’t sure how it would go.  So there’s part of the backdrop to the story…

A Perfect Day Of Surreal Proportions

So Karen planned not to come.  The session was scheduled for November 1st from 3-6 in Detroit – Jeremy and his family are all about Detroit and the comeback the city has been on (as are we) so they thought that would be great to head down there.  Karen was at the mall grabbing lunch the day of his session when Jeremy called her just to check in and he said “you’re coming on the session right?”   Karen was pretty psyched to get that question and it was just luck (no really) that she was here and available to pop over to the studio and come downtown with us.  Planets aligning…

To the D

We went to Belle Isle first and explored a bit – here’s a photo from there…

Surreal Proportions

Oddly enough as you can see the colors were not totally turned on Belle Isle yet even though it was already November, and while we’re on that topic, late September and most of October were unseasonably warm this year which is why the color change started much later than usual.  We figured for sure the cold was finally on its way for real when the temperatures averaged 53 for the previous 7 days before Jeremy’s session.  Well Jeremy’s day was 74 degrees!!!  It’s not supposed to be 74 degrees in Detroit on November 1st.  Planets aligning…

Here is some fun behind the scenes from our day starting with a replay of one of our live broadcasts on Periscope!  You can be a part of our future shows by downloading the app and following us at @FrameableFaces at this link or you can just watch from Twitter here.

Next we headed over to Eastern Market to get some photos with some of the many amazing murals in and around the area…

Surreal Proportions

Soooo cool… what a stud!

Here’s a little more behind the scenes from the Eastern Market area where you can see the full expanse of the above mural this time from Facebook Live

…and here’s one more mural shot.

Surreal Proportions

Digging the way the jacket blends into the paint here…

At this point it was time for the coup de grace.  We headed over to the Detroit Riverwalk to get a few photos which we have never actually done before and we had never been to this part of the Riverwalk but it certainly won’t be our last time there.  The whole scene was surreal – a November evening in Detroit with everyone in shorts on what felt like a perfect summer evening.  As the sun was going down the temperature held above 70 and the sunset was AMAZING with the Detoit River and the Ambassador Bridge in the background.  Planets aligning yet again…

We ended up going with a little off camera flash for this last photo we’ll share – you can get a feel for the scene in this last broadcast from Periscope – most of this broadcast is of the amazing sunset while we took a little break but it’s worth a look:

And here is the last one as the sun was about to vanish on the horizon – and while it is a finished image, Ally did not mess with the color – that sunset sky is #NoFilter!

Surreal Proportions

A perfect day – as it was finishing up we just kind of reveled in the satisfaction of an amazing session and the crazy way in which it all came together!  Karen was thrilled to be a part of it, so were we, and Jeremy nailed it!  A perfect day of surreal proportions and we hope you enjoyed the highlights!

Alison Arrives In Style For Some Senior Pics With Us In Detroit!

It’s clear that Alison arrives in style as she did on the day of her senior session which took us all around Detroit! This included Belle Isle which we traversed and found a couple of new trails and spots there (that’s three senior posts in a row with new spots).  We also spent some time exploring Eastern Market and we even made a stop for a bite at one of Detroit’s many amazing local eateries – Parks & Rec!  So you could say we really killed it – a great day with great results!

Alison Arrives…

Alison’s mom Cindy came with us for our adventure and we had a great time!  We started on Belle Isle and our first shot is a new spot which will be known as Alison’s bridge from now on for our sessions down there!  Very cool…

Alison Arrives

We also have plenty of behind the scenes action to share – starting with a broadcast replay from Periscope!  You can download the app and be a part of our broadcasts by following us at @FrameableFaces at this link, or you can just watch from Twitter here.

After Belle Isle we headed over to the Eastern Market to hunt for some murals, abandoned buildings, and graffiti and we found a little of each!  Here’s one more broadcast this time from Facebook before we headed over there…

Over at Eastern Market we started out with this cool mural…

Alison Arrives

Love it!

We also headed back to what is becoming one of our favorite abandoned buildings down there for this photo:

Alison Arrives

Yasssssss Alison!

At this point after a pit stop at Parks & Rec for a little yummy brunch we headed back to the studio for a few more and we’ll leave you with one of those on the black background:

Alison Arrives

What a session, what a day, and what a senior!  Alison arrived in style for sure and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

Exploring Detroit With Cady On An Epic Senior Session For The Ages!

All of our high school senior sessions are special – our entire approach is based on it.  We meet with our seniors ahead of time to get to know them and we photograph well under 100 of them so each one is a favorite in some sort of way.  But once in a while the planets align for a senior we’ve known for their entire life and a truly unique experience happens.  That was the case with Cady, and I’ll explain….

An Epic Senior Session…

For starters yes – we have known Cady literally since she was born.  Our families go back for decades so this had that surreal element to it to begin with, and then the session just got better and better from there.  We’ll get to some of that in a minute…  First we did a little studio work including the set up with our Victorian style red couch and the wooden floor – love this:

Cady

Beautiful!

Here is the behind the scenes replay from the Periscope broadcast we did during this setup.  If you want to join in future broadcasts and be a part of the fun you can do it from your smartphone here or you can just watch it from your computer at that link or on twitter.

Here’s a little bonus Facebook Live broadcast that we did of the black and blowy set up in the studio…

Exploring Detroit With Cady!

Here’s where things got even more awesome…  The more you photograph at a given location the better you get to know it and you start exploring a little.  You don’t need to pay attention to directions as much because you already know how to get there.  You can navigate the landscape with ease and let your eye wander towards new and exciting spots you didn’t see before.  We started at Belle Isle where we found some rocks by the water as well as a certain tree where the light was hitting just right and Cady was framed perfectly…

Cady

Wow!

From there we had plans to head over to Eastern Market to find some murals but we stopped in the Warehouse District because I had a hunch there might be some cool stuff down there….  well, there was.

Cady

LOVE this shot!!!

Here is the behind the scenes Periscope from this part of the session….

Now it was time to head over to the Eastern Market where we were going to seek out some cool murals, but we got way more than we bargained for.  There were a couple of abandoned buildings that we noticed the last time we were down there and we wondered what opportunities might await us in a couple of them….  The one we picked was a gold mine of graffiti, debris, and general urban decay.  We could have stayed there all day!!!  And there were several other photographers crawling all over the place too – no wonder.

Here’s a little Facebook Live broadcast we did until I lost my signal….

As another little added bonus since we had no signal deep in this building, I included our snap story from the day – you can add us on Snapchat here!  Snap us back!

And we’ll leave you with one of the photos from the burned out building….

Cady

Just so awesome….  Cady looked amazing and we had so much fun discovering new spots – we could have stayed in Detroit all day!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights from our day!

Doing The Dew In The D With Jayson and a Few Murals!!!

When you do a senior session and you also dew the session, and you dew Detroit, and you do cool stuff with a cool dude named Jayson, then you know you’re really do(dew)ing it well!  Doo be doo be doo and da doo doo doo da dah dah dah….  okay let’s not get carried away with the play on words here.  Focus Doug.

The fact of the matter here is Jayson is a cool dude and we had a colorful session with him in Detroit.  There are murals all over the place down there if you know where to look, and if you throw in a little Mountain Dew pop art logo tee (and a random cabbage – that’s an inside joke from the session) then you come up with photo gold and the colors just pop all over the place.

Doing The D With Jayson…

Detroit was the plan for Jayson and his mom Korlyn came with – this was our second time with Korlyn on a shoot after our awesome shoot with Jayson’s brother Riley and we knew this would be a fun day.  We started out on Belle Isle for this black and white photo…

Jayson

Love the occasional black and white for that timeless quality!

We also have plenty of behind the scenes action to share – we’ll start with the Facebook Live broadcast we did from Belle Isle!

Next we went “mural-ing” I guess you could say.  We found some great stuff over in The Belt to start with, and this is where Jayson was “Doin the Dew”:

Jayson

Lookin’ good!!!

Now we have the link (there was an error in tweeting it for some reason) to the Periscope broadcast we did in Detroit.  You can follow us while you’re there and join in the shows in the future to be a part of the fun!

Here’s another one from downtown before we headed back to the studio:

Jayson

Love it.

After a little lunch down by the Wayne State campus with older brother Riley joining us we headed back to the studio.  We also did a Periscope broadcast in the studio and what was cool about this one is we did it on our show “The Photo Shop” which airs on @ParachuteTV1 every Tuesday at 2PM EST UTC-4!  ParachuteTV was the very first network on Periscope and you can check the programming schedule at the website here.

And we’ll leave you with a photo of Jayson from the studio…

Jayson

Love the blue!  And there you have it!  Doin the D as in Detroit made for a great day with Jay and we hope you enjoyed the highlights!

We Took Over Detroit With Reed On His Senior Session!

We have spent more time in Detroit this year than ever before and that’s not by accident.  Detroit has been roaring back with a comeback like we’ve never seen in our lifetime and many seniors want to have their sessions in the city.  We have become familiar with some great spots and we are still discovering new ones all the time making for some awesome outings!  Reed’s session was no exception and he’s the second guy from this family Ally has had in front of her camera!

Family Affair…

Reed’s parents Brent and Tracie came along for the day as did his younger brother Mason.  Brent and I worked together back in my corporate days so we go pretty far back – about 20 years to be exact!  So this was a fun opportunity to hang out together for a day – it turned out to be somewhat of a wild and wacky session complete with wipeouts and a traveling party that got involved (more on that later) and the weather even cooperated despite a shaky forecast!  So let’s get to it.  But first a studio shot before we head downtown…

Reed

Good looking dude – looks just like his dad too…

Reed Takes Over Detroit…

Our first stop was on Belle Isle which is definitely becoming one of our favorite spots.  Love this view of the skyline behind our guy!

Reed

We have a couple more to look at but let’s sprinkle in a little behind the scenes action… First the 6 second looping Vine that pretty much sums it all up….

Here is the replay of our Periscope broadcast from Belle Isle.  You can be a part of our broadcasts on the Periscope app with your smartphone by downloading the app and following us at @FrameableFaces here.

Here’s another photo from Belle Isle with a new spot we found with the bog in the background and a well placed American Flag!

Reed

Now here is where it gets a little crazy!  Hehe…

This next Periscope replay you’ll see where this merry band of travelers came pedaling by Comerica park where we were setting up to get a photo in front of one of the Tiger statues.  Brent went to grab my iPhone but like a botched track and field relay the handoff failed and Brent went down trying to save it…  I guess I should have known this broadcast was pegged for madness when I somehow started the broadcast without the title pasted in.  “Untitled” is probably appropriate.  Ha!

Meanwhile if you watched the whole thing you saw that the party people took a liking to Reed and wanted their own senior picture, so here it is….

Reed

Classic!!!

From there we headed over to the Dequindre Cut to wrap it up, and we broadcasted again this time on Facebook Live…

We’ll leave you with one more photo from this last part of the session…

Reed

And there you have it!  We certainly took over Detroit on this day with Reed – a session we’ll never forget and we hope you enjoyed the highlights!
