26 Of The Best Frameable Faces Vines Of All Time

***Note*** This post was written shortly before the announcement one week later that Twitter was getting rid of Vine, so this collection of Vines was looking like an epitaph of sorts (and a fun one at that), but wait!  Not so fast….as two weeks later they announced they might save it by selling it….  Stay tuned.  In the meantime enjoy!

We love Vine!  Yes it’s not very popular anymore but we have had a lot of fun there over the last few years…  We have posted 354 vines since our very first one on June 11th, 2013 when it finally became available for Droid (right before we switched to iPhones) and they’ve been watched a total of 223,603 times as of this writing!  We’ve had some great moments here at the studio and a lot of fun with Vine’s 6 second looping format, so I thought it would be fun to select some of the best and feature them in one post.  Vine is a great way to tell stories in a condensed way and in most cases for us they are repurposed from another platform like Periscope, Snapchat or Facebook Live!  Here we have 26 “for your looping pleasure” as I usually like to say on this blog.  So we have 26 vines at 6 seconds each.  That’s 26×6=156/60 = 2.6 total minutes so you should be able to zip through these in no time!!!  So here we go in reverse chronological order…

26 of our best vines

This was a recent senior session with Reed which was a classic… We spent a day in Detroit and one of those merry peddling bars of partiers came by and jumped into a photo – oh and there was a wipe out.  It’s all captured in 6 seconds….  haha!

We spoke at Podcast Movement in Chicago this past summer and on a break we decided to mess with a few people, well….because it’s fun.

Also on this Chicago trip we photographed our first senior session in the Windy City – it was a such a cool experience with Taria!

Snapchat shenanigans…. and uh – well, yeah……

This vine is legendary – the “sharting baby” will never be forgotten….

Angela our event photographer is a complete sweetheart and always game for some fun!

Here’s a bit from our panel discussion when we spoke at Summit Live (known at the time as the Periscope Community Summit) in San Francisco – Ally singing my praises of course….

So yes we’ve been married for over 20 years but Ally can’t finish ALL of my sentences….

Not gonna lie, it’s fun to feature Jason Carr and Taryn Asher since they are such a well known and beloved couple in this town from their roles on the local news…  But this session was notable for being the first and only (so far) family winter photo session and a photo from this day is displayed in the window of our studio.

Part of our “Periscope war” with Ryan Bell when he made a would-be-innocuous comment about those of us who were early adopters of live video being geeks and nerds with regard to online technology.  Well……Ally took it personally.

This one cracks us up because our senior Mario Kakos went with the Mario Brothers theme for one of the shots on his senior session…  Hilarious.

The word of the day was Eureka….  hehe

We were part of a lip sync train on Periscope – here’s a clip…. haha

Tom is the glue that holds the mall together and he visited us one day during a live broadcast and then….we’re not sure!  LOL!

More from the Ryan Bell wars….. Ryan made a Periscope “troll account” called Flammable Feces – it’s a long story.  He even used our logo!  Well I guess I freaked out a little…..

Vines

My old buddy Aaron Norvell is an actor in Hollywood and he came by the studio for pretty memorable visit….

Christian’s session was epic – an evening session that went long after sundown, and while we light footballs and volleyballs on fire all the time, it’s not every day that we light a trombone on fire!

Ally really enjoys the opportunity to teach and to give back and on this day she had a group from BBYO here through the Building Entrepreneurship program!

Claire gave us the infamous “frog incident”…. haha

Loved getting Elise’s reaction to Alanah’s prints when she came to pick them up!

Loved this family session with the Kamens!  What an awesome crew…

Here’s Ally being interviewed by Kam Carmen for a feature Fox 2 News did on us!

This was actually Ally’s revenge on former “mascot” turned spokesmodel Mara Cranis!!!

Here’s what prompted it….

Sometimes you need to get creative like with off camera flash at a natatorium like on Danny McNeese’s senior session!

Our very first vine!!!  Back to where it all started!

So there it is!  You can see our Vines on twitter as well if you don’t have the app, and we hope you enjoyed this fun trip through our past Vines!

Exploring Detroit With Cady On An Epic Senior Session For The Ages!

All of our high school senior sessions are special – our entire approach is based on it.  We meet with our seniors ahead of time to get to know them and we photograph well under 100 of them so each one is a favorite in some sort of way.  But once in a while the planets align for a senior we’ve known for their entire life and a truly unique experience happens.  That was the case with Cady, and I’ll explain….

An Epic Senior Session…

For starters yes – we have known Cady literally since she was born.  Our families go back for decades so this had that surreal element to it to begin with, and then the session just got better and better from there.  We’ll get to some of that in a minute…  First we did a little studio work including the set up with our Victorian style red couch and the wooden floor – love this:

Cady

Beautiful!

Here is the behind the scenes replay from the Periscope broadcast we did during this setup.  If you want to join in future broadcasts and be a part of the fun you can do it from your smartphone here or you can just watch it from your computer at that link or on twitter.

Here’s a little bonus Facebook Live broadcast that we did of the black and blowy set up in the studio…

Exploring Detroit With Cady!

Here’s where things got even more awesome…  The more you photograph at a given location the better you get to know it and you start exploring a little.  You don’t need to pay attention to directions as much because you already know how to get there.  You can navigate the landscape with ease and let your eye wander towards new and exciting spots you didn’t see before.  We started at Belle Isle where we found some rocks by the water as well as a certain tree where the light was hitting just right and Cady was framed perfectly…

Cady

Wow!

From there we had plans to head over to Eastern Market to find some murals but we stopped in the Warehouse District because I had a hunch there might be some cool stuff down there….  well, there was.

Cady

LOVE this shot!!!

Here is the behind the scenes Periscope from this part of the session….

Now it was time to head over to the Eastern Market where we were going to seek out some cool murals, but we got way more than we bargained for.  There were a couple of abandoned buildings that we noticed the last time we were down there and we wondered what opportunities might await us in a couple of them….  The one we picked was a gold mine of graffiti, debris, and general urban decay.  We could have stayed there all day!!!  And there were several other photographers crawling all over the place too – no wonder.

Here’s a little Facebook Live broadcast we did until I lost my signal….

As another little added bonus since we had no signal deep in this building, I included our snap story from the day – you can add us on Snapchat here!  Snap us back!

And we’ll leave you with one of the photos from the burned out building….

Cady

Just so awesome….  Cady looked amazing and we had so much fun discovering new spots – we could have stayed in Detroit all day!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights from our day!

Doing The Dew In The D With Jayson and a Few Murals!!!

When you do a senior session and you also dew the session, and you dew Detroit, and you do cool stuff with a cool dude named Jayson, then you know you’re really do(dew)ing it well!  Doo be doo be doo and da doo doo doo da dah dah dah….  okay let’s not get carried away with the play on words here.  Focus Doug.

The fact of the matter here is Jayson is a cool dude and we had a colorful session with him in Detroit.  There are murals all over the place down there if you know where to look, and if you throw in a little Mountain Dew pop art logo tee (and a random cabbage – that’s an inside joke from the session) then you come up with photo gold and the colors just pop all over the place.

Doing The D With Jayson…

Detroit was the plan for Jayson and his mom Korlyn came with – this was our second time with Korlyn on a shoot after our awesome shoot with Jayson’s brother Riley and we knew this would be a fun day.  We started out on Belle Isle for this black and white photo…

Jayson

Love the occasional black and white for that timeless quality!

We also have plenty of behind the scenes action to share – we’ll start with the Facebook Live broadcast we did from Belle Isle!

Next we went “mural-ing” I guess you could say.  We found some great stuff over in The Belt to start with, and this is where Jayson was “Doin the Dew”:

Jayson

Lookin’ good!!!

Now we have the link (there was an error in tweeting it for some reason) to the Periscope broadcast we did in Detroit.  You can follow us while you’re there and join in the shows in the future to be a part of the fun!

Here’s another one from downtown before we headed back to the studio:

Jayson

Love it.

After a little lunch down by the Wayne State campus with older brother Riley joining us we headed back to the studio.  We also did a Periscope broadcast in the studio and what was cool about this one is we did it on our show “The Photo Shop” which airs on @ParachuteTV1 every Tuesday at 2PM EST UTC-4!  ParachuteTV was the very first network on Periscope and you can check the programming schedule at the website here.

And we’ll leave you with a photo of Jayson from the studio…

Jayson

Love the blue!  And there you have it!  Doin the D as in Detroit made for a great day with Jay and we hope you enjoyed the highlights!

We Wouldn’t Josh Ya…Okay Maybe We Would – Here He Is!

Those of you who know us here know that we wouldn’t “Josh ya” – right?  Okay well maybe we would and actually that’s what we’re doing in this post right now!  We bring to you….Josh!  We have known Josh for a long time and he and our daughter Lacey have been friends for years.  We also photographed his older brother Matt for his senior portraits so a little reprise with their mom Gayle was in order and we had a lot of fun and laughs as expected!

Time To Josh Ya…

We had a game plan to do some photos in studio and some on location so let’s start in the studio with the formal look on the grey backdrop!

Josh Ya

Now that’s a fine looking dude.

We also have plenty of behind the scenes live video for you on replay!  Here is the first of a couple Periscopes we did – this one in the studio.  If you don’t have Periscope and you want to join our shows and participate you can download the app and follow us at @FrameableFaces here and if you have twitter and just want to watch from there you can do that too.

Josh is a hockey player too so he changed into his Little Caesars jersey for this next one:

Josh Ya

Nice!

At this point it was time to head out to Heritage Park for some location shots and some more live video!  First again with Periscope.

Here’s one of the location photos which came out quite nicely – Josh was a breeze to work with!

Josh Ya

One more live video this time from Facebook for some more behind the scenes:

And one final photo up close with our man of the hour…

Josh Ya

Sweet!  So there you have it!  We decided to Josh Ya and we don’t feel bad about it one bit.  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with him!

Haven Is A Fashion Maven Which She Proved On Her Senior Session!

Haven is indeed a fashion maven and she proved it on her senior session.  Let me explain:

Fashion Maven

Some posts just write themselves….  We’ve had awesome style and fashion from our seniors this year and with Haven we were not surprised – she has represented our studio for the class of 2017 as a spokesmodel (just like her sister Jubilee did) and we love this girl!  I thought it might be fun to rhyme Haven with maven and when I punched it into a Google search “fashion mavens” showed up right in the definition.  Done deal!

Haven Is A Fashion Maven…

So we started this session with the always fashionable cheer uniform – ha, and I don’t mean that sarcastically at all.  Haven actually had some great stuff in store for the location part of the shoot, but as for the studio we love us some purple, black and silver when it comes to those Bloomfield Hills Blackhawks!!!  Whoo hooo!!!

Fashion Maven

And while we’re here in the studio here is the replay of our live Periscope behind the scenes broadcast!  If you want to follow us from your smartphone and be a part of the shows in the live chat you can do that here, or if you just want to watch from twitter you can do that here.

Next we’ll head out on location and check out this next photo – Ally was particularly impressed with the accessorizing, the boots, the whole thing!

Fashion Maven

We have another fun Periscope broadcast from the location too – here ya go…

Here’s where we found out how strong Haven’s hashtag game is…haha – well, we’ll just let the picture tell the story….

Fashion Maven

How great is that top?  Haven walked out with the #slay on and we knew she meant business!  Love it!

Here’s the Facebook Live broadcast from that moment!

We’ll leave you with one more fabulous photo from the day…

Fashion Maven

Spectacular!  We had such a great day with Haven our fashion maven and we hope you enjoyed the highlights from our day with her!

Transformation Tuesday Senior Session Post Starring Ian!

So this isn’t exactly the traditional Transformation Tuesday type of thing you might be used to when you see a Transformation Tuesday.  But it happens to be Tuesday as I’m writing this, and we saw our own transformation starring Ian, so I’m going with it.  The fact of the matter is when Ian came in for his consultation he seemed relatively shy and quiet.  Granted he didn’t know us and might not have been completely sure of what he was getting into with senior pictures, so it’s totally understandable.  But when we tell you that the guy who showed up for the photo shoot didn’t seem like the same dude we’re not kidding.  A self assured ready-to-roll stud showed up that day and he kicked ass.  Sorry (not sorry) for the pseudo profanity but that’s the only way to accurately describe it.

Starring Ian…

So let’s get to the photos which include some studio work as well as some on location – studio first.

Starring Ian

So, not to be cheesy but seriously – you can see it in his eyes.  Confidence.

And now how about a little behind the scenes fun?  First with our little 6 second vine overview…

And here we have the replay of our live Periscope broadcast from the studio.  If you aren’t following us on Periscope and would like to tune in and be a part of the show in the live chat you can do it here, and if you just want to watch from twitter you can do that here!

And here’s another studio photo for you this time in black and white…

Starring Ian

Heading Out…

At this point we headed out to our location portion of the session and we dodged a couple raindrops but it was all good.  We’ll start with this cool photo on the West Bloomfield trail network:

Starring Ian

Ian is rockin’ it as you can see…

We also have another Periscope replay from on location:

And we’ll finish with one more close up photo of our guy:

Starring Ian

So there it is – you didn’t see the “transformation” part but we did and it was really cool.  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day starring Ian!

Jake Was The Symbol And The Superhero Of This Senior Session!

When Jake came in for his senior consultation with his mom Jen we proceeded to have a fun and healthy debate about superheroes.  Now actually I’m not really a superhero guy and I quickly found out that I was pretty overmatched, but I think I hung in there…..kinda.  In any event Jake is clearly inspired as millions are by superheroes – Batman and Iron Man in particular.  So I went searching around and found this awesome quote from Batman Begins:

Bruce Wayne Quote

I think this quote is appropriate for this photo session for a couple of reasons…  For starters I think this whole idea applies to photographs in general.  Photos can preserve a moment, a person – they can be everlasting.  That’s part of the appeal of what we do here whether we’re making new photos or restoring old ones.  Senior pictures capture such a cool time in a young guy like Jake’s life!  So hold on to that thought for a minute and we’ll come back to it…

Jake The Superhero!

Let’s start with the Batman inspiration in the studio for our first sneak peak…

Superhero

Awesome.

Here’s the behind the scenes vine from the day….

We also did plenty of broadcasting that day on Periscope and Facebook Live.  Okay maybe we went a little crazy – I’ve actually done a collab with Jake’s mom Jen who is also known as Princess Pinky Girl online so she’s a natural on camera as was Jake!  Much fun!  If you haven’t downloaded Periscope yet you can do it and be a part of our broadcasts here or you can just watch on twitter here.

First in the studio:

Next it’s the first of our location broadcasts at Heritage Park:

And here is one of our shots of this fine young lad in the great outdoors…

Superhero

Let’s see a little more of our behind the scenes from Facebook Live – we actually spent a lot of time cracking up on this session…  Jake is a funny dude.

And here we have a shot of Jake chillin’…

Superhero

Lastly I want to bring it back to that Batman quote from earlier.  Here’s where it ties it all together….

Bruce Wayne said as a symbol he could be incorruptible.  He could be everlasting.  That’s what we achieved with Jake on this last photo which was a first for us, and an idea that Jen brought in.  It’s a silhouette that captures the spirit of being a senior – with your life ahead of you.  Incorruptible.  Everlasting.  Arms up to the sky!  This photo could be anyone.  You can’t necessarily tell it’s Jake, and yet it IS Jake.  A symbol – and a powerful one at that….

Superhero

So cool….

Here’s the behind the scenes of us creating that photo!

And that’s the story!  Jake was the symbol and the superhero and we will always remember this session!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with him!

Like An Expressive Melody, This Aria Is Aptly Named!

According to Wikipedia, an aria started out originally as any expressive melody usually performed by a singer.  In a culture where our names don’t always mean something (as famously pointed out by Butch in Pulp Fiction) this is a case where it does and it works for this girl!  She is a sweetheart who has been a friend of our Lacey’s since they were toddlers!  She’s bright, beautiful and nice – like an expressive melody indeed!  As one of our spokesmodels for the class of 2017 this is the second time we’ve been able to get out on location and photograph her this year alone, but she’s been in front of Ally’s camera several times over the years!  With her mom (and our friend) Rachel along for the ride, it was another fun and epic day!

Aria Is Aptly Named…

This session was almost exclusively on location and our Aria was prepared with makeup done by Mandy Rose from Mandy Rose Studio – little shout out here to Mandy as she does amazing work!  Aria was stylin’ too and with that said we should get to a few of the photos…

Aria

Beautiful!

Now let’s mix in some behind the scenes fun from the day, first with our 6 second looping vine:

And now let’s see one of the replays of the live Periscope broadcasts from the session!  If you aren’t following us on Periscope you can do it and be a part of our broadcasts in the live chat here, or you can just watch on twitter here.

We also did a quick Facebook Live broadcast while we were at Heritage Park too – take a look:

….and here’s a fun photo from the blue door in the broadcast above!

Aria

Love that one…!

At this point we changed locations to head over to Birmingham to get a few city shots.  Here’s a cool one in the alleyway:

Aria We also broadcasted one more time for some more behind the scenes fun in Birmingham on Periscope!

As we near the end of the story we’ll leave you with one more of Aria on the stairway – step by step we know she’ll be smiling the whole way!

Aria

And there you have it!  Aria is truly a melody of a girl and she’s aptly named for sure!  We hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

Getting Modernistic With Mallory On Her Senior Session!

So let me explain the title a little here….

I’m going to spill one of my huge blogging secrets here.  Sometimes I use a thesaurus for our titles if I’m stumped for a word that begins with the same letter of our senior’s name.  There – I said it.

Meanwhile, with Mallory the word I wanted to match was STYLISH because this girl has some serious style.  Sure many of our seniors do, but Mallory is a level above, and why shouldn’t she be – she has spent a lot of time working for our mall neighbors Guys N Gals so she has the fashion piece down.  Modernistic is a synonym for stylish and I kinda like it!  See what I did there?  You’ll see when you see the photos below.

Modernistic With Mallory…

So while Mallory came prepared with the killer wardrobe selection her mom Perah came along and Ally has known her for a long time – oh and Mallory and our Lacey are friends too so we knew this would be an exceptional session!  We started on location in the morning and our conditions were perfect once again so let’s get to it!  We started with natural settings:

Modernistic

She’s totes adorbs.  Notice that the girl knows how to accessorize too!

Now let’s mix in some behind the scenes fun from our day!  First with our 6 second vine for your viewing pleasure…

And next we have the first of a few live video snippets from that morning starting with a Periscope broadcast on location – if you aren’t following us on Periscope you can download the app and be a part of the shows from your smartphone here, or just watch from twitter here.

First the Quarton Lake broadcast:

And here is one more gorgeous photo of our stylish senior at the lake!

Modernistic

Beautiful!

Before we head back to the studio we have a photo to share from downtown Birmingham that we love in a spot we’ve used a handful of times, just not with this chair!

Modernistic

And here is the behind the scenes broadcast from the city…

Now let’s head back to the studio where we finished up our day with a little Detroit love and we did another quick broadcast this time on Facebook Live!

And we’ll leave you with this photo from that last part of our day here at the studio…

Modernistic

Okay how cute is she?  We had a lot of fun with Mallory and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our day with her!

Move Over Kerri Walsh Jennings – Here Comes Kayla and She’s On Fire!

Okay so maybe Kerri Walsh Jennings doesn’t have to “move over” per se….  After all she may be the greatest beach volleyball player of all time, but we don’t know Kerri Walsh Jennings personally and Kayla is a volleyball player we do know!  So with all due respect to Kerri, here comes Kayla and we are choosing to focus on her!  We spent a morning with her and her mom Dawn recently for senior pictures and it was a truly memorable experience!  And yes, this girl was “on fire” – but we’ll get to that in a little bit…  haha!

Here Comes Kayla…

With Kayla we had a game plan that included some studio work and some on location shooting in Birmingham.  We started on location as we tend to do for morning sessions when the sun is lower in the sky, and the conditions were perfect!

Here comes Kayla

Love it!

Let’s break for a little behind the scenes fun from the shoot shall we?  Let’s switch it up from the usual and start with a replay from the live Periscope broadcast from Quarton Lake!  If you want to be a part of our live broadcasts by joining and chatting live follow us at @frameablefaces here, or just watch us on twitter here.

Here’s one more photo on location for you before we head back to the studio:

Here comes Kayla

How about that backlight on her hair?  Gorgeous!

Now here’s our looping Vine that sums up the day in 6 seconds….

Next we’ll focus on the studio photos which you saw a glimpse of in the vine…

We focused mostly on the black background – love this one….

Here comes Kayla

And now here is the studio Periscope replay…

And as an added bonus we even did a little live video on Facebook!

Now it’s time to get to the coup de grace!  Remember when we said Kayla was “on fire”?  Remember when we told Kerri Walsh Jennings to move over?  This is the shot we were talking about….  Kayla rocking the Falcon gear with a fiery volleyball!

Here comes Kayla

Love that!  And there you have it!  Kayla had a fabulous session and we hope you enjoyed the highlights of our morning with her!!!
